Formed in June 09, Here Come the Belgians is a non-elite anti-team celebrating all things cross, cobbled and Belgian.
Seeking a different experience to the traditional cycling club, its aim is to harness the energy of a vibrant internet cycling community with grass roots racing and riding based around Cyclocross and Spring Classics. There is no race programme in the style of a racing team, more a collection of individual experiences through rides and racing, in whatever location a member may be, that all can share in and contribute toward.

Ashton Hoyle NWCCA CX 13/10/13

No Yorkshire points this weekend coupled to fellow 'Belgians Mark, Alan @crossjunkie, and an injured Dave laying on the second edition of their Waddow Hall  CX event meant some of the Yorkshire HCtB contingent sneaked over the border to the 'darkside'. Contrary to expectations we were not stopped at the border and it actually remained dry!

The setting was very picturesque with the Ribble in the background overlooked by Pendle Hill. The course was great, a mix of fast, hilly and technical - even some proper steps! Added to was this excellent changing/shower provision together with copious and cheap food from the Girl Guides (I think?) - Ace!

Being a NW race there was no chance of gridding so we ended up 4-5 rows back which meant it would be a battle to move up. Luckily the steep initial hill and some judicious riding in the rough enabled good progress on the opening lap. Time enough then to settle in and pick up places as opportunities presented themselves. A varied lap with some stiff climbing, technical descents, tricky grass loops, flat out Tarmac and steps meant there was little or no respite - excellent! Thoroughly battered myself chasing people :-)
