Northallerton is a fast grass course with great facilities including changing rooms/showers - superb cake stall (yum) and ample parking. Another dry weekend meant that it was going to be all about the legs and avoiding silly mistakes - keep it smooth and go hard. Only three 'Belgians today Nick, Paul (again not credited to the team :-/) and myself.

This year's course didn't make use of the far field but kept most of the lap distance by some intricate zig zags. For the first time the chip timing made use of a staggered start in the Vets and Women's race allowing Vet 50s and Women to start a minute or two behind the Vet 40s. This seemed to work quite well on this course where there are plenty of passing opportunities and none of the faster Vet 50s or women seemed to be held up by younger/slower riders. It worked especially well for Wayne who won the Vet 50 category!

I can see you're really pleased to win Wayne! |
For myself I had a good start, perhaps too good, and managed to hang onto the lead group for a lap and a half before slipping back to eventually finish 18th so still some work to do. The lap splits show a consistency with less that 7 seconds between fastest and slowest laps which I'm happy with - just need to get some speed!

Nick had a better ride finishing barely 40 seconds behind Paul - it must have been that nice clean bar tape.
Rich Allen 18th
Paul Nutton 50th
Nick Waggett 55th
